Beginners First Feis – What to expect

When your child is ready to compete at a local competition, David will advise you. When a dancer is ready to compete there a few basic things that you will need to know. This will prove to be very enjoyable experience for both dancers and parents, however if you are not organised it can be a stressful time for all involved.

The following is some information for parents of new dancers:

  • What to wear:

Dancers who are participating in the beginner’s grades are not permitted to wear a solo costume. Dancers should wear the class uniform or class costume. Dancers should be well presented with their shoes polished and clean white poodle socks.

  • What to bring with you to competition:

    1. Pins to secure your number,
    2. Both sets of shoes, heavy and light,
    3. A notebook to keep a record of results for progression into new grades,
    4. Girls will require hairclips, hairspray and a hairband,
    5. Boys will require black trousers, black socks and a smart shirt
      • What will happen at the Competition?

Parents will need to collect their childs number and register with the feis organiser. You can then make your way to the hall in which your child is dancing. There will be stage co-ordinators who will announce where dancers will compete and your child will perform in front of the qualified Adjudicator.

Once all dancers have competed the results of your child’s competition will be announced and if they are successful they will be called to receive an award from the Adjudicator.
